- Derrick de Kerckhove is not a quantum physicist, but he applies sociological methods to explore the psychological, social, economic, and political consequences of innovation and communication technologies. Between 1983 and 2008, he was Director of the McLuhan Program in Culture and Technology at the University of Toronto where he continued with colleagues and students to decode the message of the media. Among his best-selling books are Brainframes: Technology, Mind and Business (1991), The Skin of Culture (1995), Connected Intelligence (1997). Among the most recent, the last two are The Quantum Ecology (co-authored with Stefano Calzati, MIT Press October 2024) and L’uomo quantistico (Rai libri, September 2025). He was Guest Professor at the Design School of the Polytechnic Institute of Milano (2016-2025) and, since 2008, Director of research at the Internet Interdisciplinary Institute (IN3) at the Open University of Catalonia in Barcelona. He lives in Rome, where he is scientific director of the monthly magazine, Media Duemila, and of the Osservatorio Tuttimedia.
