Biography

Dr. Philipp Harbach is Chief Science & Technology Officer at Merck. In this role, he shapes how the organization drives early innovation, advances digital and AI capabilities, and helps translate science and technology into value across Merck's businesses. A chemist by training, Philipp has spent more than a decade at Merck working at the intersection of natural and computational sciences, artificial intelligence, and digital products. Before taking on his current role, he was Global Head of Group Digital Innovation, where he led teams building and scaling computational, AI and data platforms and embedding them into research, manufacturing, and decision-making. He joined Merck in 2014 and holds a PhD in Theoretical Chemistry from Heidelberg University.
