Biography

Mathias VAN DEN BOSSCHE graduated at the Ecole Normale Supérieure, Paris, and holds a PhD in quantum many-body systems. After a few years in Theoretical Physics research, he moved to Space industry, where he took part to heavy operational programmes in a bottom-up trajectory. He came back to research to lead the R&D activities of the space division of the Thales group. There, he set up an ambitious roadmap on quantum technologies, and identified communications as the first topic to address, without neglecting sensing and computing. This roadmap unfolds successfully in collaboration with several universities and agencies – and key roadblocks towards implementing space-based quantum communications have already been lifted in our team that leads the field in France and Europe.
