Pavel Hrmo
ZuriQ
Information
- Biography
- Dr. Pavel Hrmo is the CEO and co-founder of ZuriQ, a Swiss spin-out from ETH Zürich developing scalable trapped-ion quantum computers. A quantum physicist by training, he pioneered advanced ion-trap control methods during his PhD and later contributed to groundbreaking multi-level entangling gates at the University of Innsbruck. After joining ETH Zürich’s Penning trap team and publishing the fundamental building block of its novel computing architecture, he co-founded ZuriQ in 2024. The company aims to address quantum computing’s key challenge: scalability. Under his leadership, the company is building a unique 2-D ion array architecture that enables reconfigurable qubit movement and long-term growth in qubit quantity. In 2025, Hrmo led ZuriQ’s €4M pre-seed round, positioning the company to deliver its first prototype and advance toward practical quantum systems for applications in science and industry.
